Dipping my toe in jokes...

I was watching Tina Fey in 30 Rock (yes, I'm binging now) and there's one episode (or two) where she discovers that she has a wicked sense of humour where she makes fun of everyone and everything.

That made me sit up from the slouch on the sofa surrounded by bowls of nachos and note cards. Don't ask.

I used to think I was normal when most people remember me making fun of them or trying to bond by making jokes. It didn't work most of the time of course. But I think it started more at work than at school because in school I wasn't really noticeable. I was neither too smart or too stupid. I was awkward for sure, but didn't really talk to anyone without that person walking away.

But at work, I came alive. I was good at my job and that gave me the confidence to be more jokey and many of the team were like that too - after the first year of "bullying" they called rite of passage.

Now I'm going to use all that jokey instinct - like making fun of slogans, ads, people, situations even when they are totally uncalled for and channel into my writing.

As a start I'm now part of the The News Dump team, making fun of current news. It's going to be a lot of fun! If you love my piece, please spread the word!
